Cheat’s Pear Pie Using Preserved Pears
This simple pie can be baking while you’re making dinner. It’s that simple! I use pears from our 100 year old trees that I bottle in Autumn and frozen puff pastry.
You can use fresh pears, and add cinnamon, sugar and nutmeg. But you will need to precook them a bit in a pan with some butter and brown sugar before putting them in the pie dish and covering with pastry.
Equipment and Ingredients:
· Pears, washed, cored and sliced
· Brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg if using fresh pears
· OR bottled pears
· 2 sheets frozen puff pastry
· Decent sized baking dish
· preheat oven to 180C fan
Step one
If using fresh pears, cook on medium heat in a knob of butter with the spices until tender.
Step two
Arrange cooked or bottled pears in the baking dish. Place a layer of puff pastry over the dish. Tuck in the edges. Place the second layer on top. Tuck in the edges.
Step three
Prick with a fork many times through the pastry to allow steam to rise out of the pie whilst cooking and avoid ugly bubbles and juice everywhere. Cook in the preheated oven until the top is golden and flaky. Yum! Serve with cream or custard, hot or cold.
